Cleansing Activities & Ceremonies
While not every Shamanic cleanse is the same, they all tend to follow a similar flow. As often as we can, we will offer Yoga classes in order to keep our bodies loose and our minds focused and strong. We will also have regular plant baths to continuously wash away the toxins that we are purging. In the beginning of our cleanse we will make ceremonial offerings to the Spirits of the land in order to open up a healing space. We will often invite in local Shaman to help with the opening. From there we move into a diagnostics phase which may be a Coca Leaf Reading, an Egg Reading, or a Diagnostic Massage. During this phase we are determining what in your body needs cleaning, where the energy is flowing freely and where your blockages are. In the third phase of the cleanse we are working to free up physical and emotional blockages. This may consists of a purge or a sweat lodge. Finally, once all the energy is flowing freely, we move into the final phase of the cleanse where we start to work with Plant Medicine to clean ourselves on a Spiritual level. Below are several activities which many of our cleanses incorporate...
Daily Activities

Plant Baths
Every day we will prepare a Plant Bath by pealing several different herbs and then cooking them over an open fire. We take our Plant Baths in order to wash away stagnant energy and to make our Selves more appealing to the Spirit Realm. (Read More)

Yoga
On most days CJ Ananda will offer an optional (although highly recommended) Yoga class. She will customize the classes to appeal to all levels. For those who have taken Ananda’s Yoga, you know that we’re in for a treat… how lucky are we!

Phase 1 - Opening

Despacho
In the Andean tradition, before any cleanse can be initiated, a Shaman must first open the healing space by calling in the Spirits of the Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and most importantly, the Apus (mountain spirits). It is essential that we have the support of the local Spirits to guide us on our healing process. With the guidance of a beautiful Mountain Shaman from the Kero tribe, we will co-create this Sacred Ceremony, called a Despacho.

Offerings to the Apus
We will visit ancient Wacas (power places) where we will make offerings to the Apu Mountain Spirits. Coming down from the mountain we will have a chance to buy woolen goods to keep us warm and other artisan crafts from the beautiful indigenous market.

Cacao Ceremony
We will also hold a Cacao Ceremony to open up our heart chakras, for Love is the strongest healing power and if our Heart Chakra is open, then we are assured a profoundly healing experience. Sound Healing will accompany the Ceremony to harmonize our group vibration and to synchronize our energy with the Earth.

Phase 2 - Diagnostics

Coca Leaf Readings
Coca Leaf Readings help us determine the best way to navigate the cleanse, to find out exactly what your Spirit is ready for. Close your eyes, focus your energy, and blow your Spirit into the leaves. Whomever is guiding you through the reading will let the leaves fall and let you know the best way to proceed with the cleanse. It's sounds like magic... and it is.

Egg Readings
The practitioner rubs an egg all over your body then cracks the egg into a glass of water. Based on the bubbles that appear in the egg, the partitioner can tell you what exactly needs healing in your body. Most people find this silly at first... until they experience the accuracy of the reading.

Shamanic Massage
While you will inevitably love the massage, enjoyment is not really what it's about. Your therapist will be deeply probing your channels in order to discover densities in your energetic channels. Once we know where the blockages are, it will be easier to free them up.

Phase 3 - Physical Cleansing

Chupa Runa / Inipi / Temezcal / Sweat Lodge
Chupa Runa is an ancient Incan tradition that will help our body flush itself of Toxins. We sit through intense heat, allowing our pores to open and letting any doubts or fears release. When we emerge from the Chupa Runa we will have vividly experienced Death and be Reborn and ready for the Spiritual Journey that lies ahead.

Tobacco Purge
We are finally ready to start our work with the Master Plants. We will begin with a Tobacco Purge where we drink concentrated Tobacco Juice followed by 7 liters of Malva tea. This deep purge helps to open our Stomach and Throat Chakras and cleanse our upper intestinal track.

Phase 4 - Master Plants

Preparing Medicine
We will often have the opportunity to prepare our own Plant Medicine, merging our energies with the plants that we will be working with in the coming days. This beautiful practice elicits a deep meditation as we synchronize our energy with the plant and respectfully request the use of it's healing energies.

Medicinal Mushrooms
Psychedelic Mushrooms are often used in recreational settings, but used with intention, can be very powerful teachers. Those that work with mushrooms often experience very profound periods of connection with all that is. The experience with Oneness can dramatically alter ones life with the knowing that we are all intimately connected and that all is constantly unfolding in perfection.

Washuma (San Pedro)
We will then start working with Washuma. Just as Washuma grows in the high desert mountains, which are quiet and bright, so to is the experience. While all plant medicines force you to look into the depths of your Soul, Washuma does so with a benevolent, kind energy. Deep meditations, strong connection to Earth Energy, and out of body experiences are common with Washuma.

Ayahuasca
Sometimes referred to as "Grandmother", Ayahuasca can be translated as "The Vine of the Dead" and may allow us to experience the dying process. In Shamanic Traditions (and Buddhism), life is ultimately a preparation for death. Aya allows us to experience a mini-death, which at first may be scary, but with practice becomes blissful. How beautiful that this wise plant teaches us how to die, helps us overcome our fears and anxiety so that we can be prepared for the real thing. While it may sound scary, there is no greater teacher than Ayahuasca.
